    UPDATE, Tuesday, March 31st - 2:30 p.m.:

MEISD has extended our school closure through at least May 1st due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Thursday, March 19th - 11:20 a.m.

    IMPORTANT CLOSURE AND ACADEMIC INFORMATION

    Dear MEISD family,

With the Coronavirus spreading across Texas; and with our first 2 positive cases in Rusk County, I believe it is in the best interest of our students and our elderly that are around students, that we remain closed for at least the next two weeks. This closing will be officially thru April 3rd.

I understand and apologize for the burden this is placing on our families...especially those who normally would not have a parent/guardian at home during school hours due to work, etc. This virus has given all of us problems that we have to work through and solve together.

The district is working diligently to plan for your child’s continued education; which will begin next week. Most of our studies will be accomplished online through google classroom or some other form of online digital learning. With that said, any student or family that does NOT have wifi or online capabilities, the campuses will provide printed copies of classroom work to be completed each week we are out of school. NO student will be left behind in their education.

Students that have online capabilities and a computer/laptop:
The campus will (or has already) send out information on how to connect to the google classroom or other digital learning form to send and/or deliver lessons to be completed. Your teacher will send assignments, videos, lessons and other forms of learning for each week that we are closed.

Students that have online capabilities through a hotspot on your phone or other online form but don’t have a computer or laptop:
The school will issue you a chrome book laptop to complete your assignments. If you have one of the major brands of cellular service (Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, etc.), you have been granted unlimited data use for the next 60 days. You can hotspot the chrome book to your phone. You can also hook up to the schools wifi and complete work while in a vehicle, etc. There are several areas that have good wifi reception.  You will follow the protocol mentioned in the paragraph above.

For students that have no online capabilities:
Each Monday from 7am-7pm, the district will be open for you to come by and pick up your assignments. The campuses will send out information on the times for your grade level and/or campus.

Since we are all in this together, I am asking each of you to take care of your neighbor with this information. Not everyone will look at FB or the Web for the information. If you know of folks that wouldn’t or couldn’t see this letter, please share it with them. The campuses will be making phone calls but we also don’t want anyone missing this vital information. Thank you for helping us in sharing the word.

    Food Service
A reminder that ALL students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. Breakfast will be served from 7-9am. Lunch will be served from 11-1pm. All you have to do is drive thru the front of the school during those times and our food service personnel will deliver to your car. We ask that you please remain in your vehicle.

MEISD family, as I said, we are all in this together.  We are living in unprecedented times that I never thought I would see in my lifetime.  PLEASE follow the CDC guidelines with the virus.  I want all of the MEISD family to stay safe and healthy.  I will continue to send informational letters at least each week.  God Bless and stay safe!

    Byron Jordan, Superintendent

Our theme for the 19-20 school year is "It's Our Time!" The theme is intended to convey a "can do" attitude that we strive to instill in all of our students. We believe that our kids can do anything they want to do, be anything that they want to be, and succeed in all of the endeavours that they undertake in their lives. Now is the time to recommit ourselves as educators, parents, and students to strive for excellence each and every day. It's our time to shine. It's our time to succeed. It's our time to embody what it means to be a Wildcat - excellence with character.
